Our Story
How It Began
A Safe Space was founded in 2023 by a group of community members who were deeply moved by what they saw around them — people struggling without access to grounding, supportive alternatives to healing. They believed something better was possible, and they came together to build it.
What started as a shared vision grew into an organized effort — bringing together farmers, healers, educators, and neighbors united by one purpose: creating spaces where anyone who needs to reconnect with themselves and the earth is truly welcome.
Today, A Safe Space is actively expanding its outreach — developing farm sites, building therapeutic programs, and offering an open door to veterans, children, families, and anyone seeking a grounded path toward healing.
Our Vision
We envision a future where veterans find peace in the soil, where every child knows how to grow food, and where anyone — regardless of background or circumstance — has a safe, green space to breathe, belong, and begin again.
What We Stand For
We believe nature is medicine. Our horticultural therapy programs give veterans with PTSD a structured, peaceful alternative to clinical-only treatment — one rooted in purpose and the rhythm of growing things.
Children who learn to grow food grow into stewards of the earth. Our summer farm schools teach practical sustainability skills — and give kids a hands-on connection to where their food comes from.
A Safe Space means exactly that. Veterans, families, seniors, people in recovery, neighbors — everyone is welcome here, no experience required. The only rule is kindness.
We are stronger together. Our programs only work because volunteers, donors, farmers, and neighbors show up for each other — season after season.
We are accountable to our donors and communities. Every dollar is tracked, every program is documented, and our books are open.
Whether you donate, volunteer, or simply spread the word — you are part of A Safe Space. Come grow with us.
